Instagram Update: If you’ve ever been annoyed by having to crop your phone photos just to post them on Instagram, there’s finally some good news. The platform now supports 3:4 aspect ratio images — the default size for most phone cameras — so you can upload them without trimming anything off.

This change was confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who wrote on Threads: “Instagram now supports 3:4 aspect ratio photos.” That means your vertical mobile photos can now be posted just the way you captured them, without borders or workarounds.

Why This Matters

Until now, the tallest photo you could upload was in a 4:5 ratio. Anything more vertical had to be resized or fitted with borders — a hassle, especially for photographers and creatives who care about framing and full-image presentation. With the updated support, 3:4 photos will now display fully, offering a more seamless experience.

Added Flexibility

Instagram shared in its broadcast channel that it will continue supporting 1:1 square images and the previously maximum 4:5 verticals. Now, with 3:4 joining the lineup, users have more flexibility than ever — whether you’re posting a single photo or creating a carousel.
