Meta's photo-sharing application Instagram is reportedly testing "Ad Break" with limited users. On the expected lines, these ads can be an interruption while using the app. Flagged by Android Authority in a recent report, these ads may require users to view ads for about 3-5 seconds before scrolling the feed again.

For the unaware, Meta relies on revenue from ads and other mechanisms like in-app purchases and subscriptions. The company already deploys sponsored content, which looks similar to regular posts. Several users have shared their experiences about the issue on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), the report noted.

In one screenshot shared by a user, the "Sponsored" post is visible with an "Ad break" of three seconds, which could be even longer considering the elapsed timer. After clicking the "i" icon, the company may share details of the change. "You're seeing an ad break...Ad breaks are a new way of seeing ads on Instagram. Sometimes you may need to view an ad before you can keep browsing," the description read.

Many users added their experiences in the comments section. One user said: "I came here to post this because there are no talks about it anywhere. I think they're testing this with a small handful of people." Another one added: "Thought I've been taking crazy pills for two days because this is currently happening with me and I couldn't find any info anywhere other than your recent post. So thank you and goodbye IG."

A third user termed Ad Breaks a "terrible business decision". Some even say they will "delete the app" if the feature arrives. Others speculate this could be a "small A/B test for now". Meanwhile, the company is also testing a setting to let users experiment with "early access" features and AI-powered themes for chats. You can read more on this here.
