JE Technology Desk: Novel online scams are rising in India at an unprecedented speed. From lottery to part-time jobs and now trading, lucrative domains are fresh targets of fraudsters to dupe people. In the latest case, a woman scammer duped a Pune techie of Rs 91.75 lakh in an investment scam on the pretext of a 'bright future' after their marriage, according to The Indian Express.
According to the police, the 33-year-old got in touch with the fraud lady on a matrimonial portal in February. The lady fraudster promised to marry him, and both interacted over the phone. It was followed by requests to invest in 'blescoin' trading.
As a result, the victim took loans of roughly Rs 71 lakh from several banks, agencies and a loan application, as per the report. From day one of the relationship till the case filing, he transferred around Rs 86 lakh (loan amount + 15 lakh savings) to the woman scammer aiming for returns from trading.
After these events unfolded, the accused asked the victim to invest an extra Rs 10 lakh for returns. He went on to transfer over 5 lakh more, but still, the amount was not moved to his account. As an outcome, the techie informed the police authorities and registered a complaint. A case with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology (IT) Act was filed against the woman (who scammed the engineer) and her aides.
According to the report, the lady told her that she is living in Malaysia and made him transfer monetary sums in fraudulent business. Several scams repeatedly make headlines in media reports. One such popular scam is a part-time job scam on WhatsApp and Telegram of liking videos or rating hotels and movies.
