Apple will likely unveil the iOS 18 update in September 2024. The software is currently undergoing testing ahead of launch with developers and beta testers. With the latest update, the company is currently rolling out the second beta of iOS 18.1 and the beta 6 for developers. For public testers, the tech giant started the rollout of iOS 18 beta 4.
For context, the company is testing the first version of iOS 18 with developers and testers (expected to be out in September) and the first major update of iOS (the .1 update) with developers, which may follow in the stable build in October. As for the changes in the iOS 18.1 beta update, the carousel from the Photos app has been removed to make it less confusing, according to MacRumors.
Collections within the Photos app are now available once a user scrolls down from the main library view. In Safari, the Distraction Control feature lets users hide components in webpages and articles. This works with sign-in windows, cookie pop-ups, newsletters, signup videos and more.

The company is also testing localised versions of English in the 18.1 beta 2 update. In addition to the US, UK and Australia, these include Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, India and Singapore, the report added. With iOS 18 Beta 6, Apple redesigned the Albums Collection of the Photos app. Each album has a separate card with a thumbnail on the left.
In all betas, the company is introducing changes to the Control Center, such as a new toggle for Bluetooth. Apple is also introducing Dark Mode Notification Icons in all betas. Plus, the company is also working on new splash screens for Photos, Podcasts, Home, Calculator, Notes and more apps. Icons tints on the home screen are now based on the wallpaper and not the system. The 'Browse' tab is now 'New' in Apple Music.
