Apple announced that the company has added new features to its iOS 18 update, specifically for Indian users. These features include support for new Indian fronts and numerals, language and input with a multilingual keyboard, improved language search, and multilingual Siri support.
"iPhone is now more competent, intelligent, and personal than ever with iOS 18. More customisation options, the largest makeover of the Photos app, new Mail inbox management capabilities, and much more are included in this significant upgrade," according to a statement from Apple.
The iOS 18 update allows users to personalise the lock screen time with Indian numerals in 12 different languages: Arabic, Arabic Indic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, Telugu, and others. They can also change the font's colour and weight to achieve the exact style they desire for their contact posters.
iOS 18 brought support for Live Caller ID, Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian English, a smart call history search, and a revamped phone keypad search and dialling experience. Users will now have access to the "multilingual keyboard" function thanks to the latest update.
Users can now type phonetically with Latin characters in English and up to two more Indian languages on iPhone 12 and later, providing a trilingual predictive typing experience. This can be found in Notes, Messages, and any other location where people have keyboard access. Emoji Prediction and QuickPath are also supported by the multilingual keyboard.
Furthermore, users may now directly text in Indian scripts on the iPhone thanks to its support for alphabetical layouts for 11 Indian languages.
"Keys are arranged in an alphabetical order, vowel and conjunct keys on the layouts change dynamically based on what the user is typing making it easier to find the correct character to type," claimed Google.
Eleven languages—Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu—have alphabetical layouts accessible. Additional enhancements, included in the iOS version include improved language search, multilingual Siri, a translated app, a migration to an iOS app, and increased dual SIM control.
