Apple’s next major iPhone software update, iOS 19, is expected to bring a significant visual refresh, focusing on consistency across devices. According to a well-known journalist, the update will streamline controls, icons, and buttons, creating a more unified interface for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro users. Apple is set to unveil iOS 19 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which kicks off on June 9.
A Major Redesign Since iOS 7
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared insights on Apple’s plans for iOS 19 during a Q&A session with Bloomberg Businessweek Daily anchor Tim Stenovec. He stated that this would be “the biggest overhaul since iOS 7,” which launched back in 2013. The update is expected to incorporate design elements from VisionOS, the software that powers Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

One key change rumoured to be coming is the introduction of glass-like effects throughout the interface. While this was previously speculated for iOS 18, Apple instead focused on rolling out its Apple Intelligence features. Now, with iOS 19, the company is reportedly shifting its attention to creating a more visually cohesive system across all its devices.

A More Consistent UI Across Apple Devices
Apple’s goal with iOS 19 is to reduce inconsistencies in system navigation, such as hamburger menus, menu buttons, and app closing actions. The redesign is expected to make these elements more uniform across Apple’s entire ecosystem. Additionally, some core apps may be redesigned to improve usability for newer users, though details on which apps will see changes remain unclear.
Home Screen and Icon Changes
Past reports have suggested that iOS 19 might revamp the home screen by replacing Apple’s long-standing rounded square icons with fully rounded ones, similar to those seen in VisionOS. Rather than introducing major new features, this update is expected to focus primarily on aesthetics and system-wide visual consistency.
Apple is set to reveal the full details of iOS 19 during WWDC 2025, where we’ll see just how far the company is willing to go with this long-awaited visual refresh.
