iOS 19 Update: The iOS 18 cycle has been a bit sluggish and all credit goes to Apple Intelligence. Now reports online suggest that Apple might be just a few months away from unleashing its next-gen operating system the iOS 19. As usual, the internet doesn't keep quiet and whispers of numerous leaks and rumours are all over the internet, giving space to speculations about what the expected latest OS could bring this time. Here we will take a look at all that can be expected this time from the latest iOS 19.
iOS 19: What to Expect
While details about iOS 19 remain scarce beyond the typical performance improvements, there is growing speculation about significant enhancements to Apple Intelligence and a major Siri overhaul.
A report by Bloomberg last year stated that we might get a "more conventional Siri" for the iOS 19, which will be backed by "more advanced large language models (LLM's)". The report also states that this new upgrade will make Siri' interactions "more like a human" equipping it with capabilities of "handling more sophisticated requests" similar to what other AI agents in the market work like ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reported that Apple is “behind in the development schedule of the more ChatGPT-like Siri.” As a result of this delay, Apple has “scrapped its plan to unveil the evolved version of conversational Siri at WWDC 2025 in June this year.” It’s still unclear whether the upgraded Siri will debut with iOS 19.4 in March next year or be pushed back to iOS 20.
While rumours give us a glimpse of hope that devices that support iOS 18 will also get iOS 19 compatibility, in reality only a few of them might get all the new features, something that we have already witnessed with iOS 18 with regards to Apple Intelligence features.
Camera App Revamp
Front Page Tech recently posted a YouTube video on their channel in which Pressor exhibited how a supposed overhaul of the Camera app design could look like in the latest iOS 19. The showcase highlighted a more translucent look for the controls and menu in the Camera app, something very similar to VisionOS, Apple's exclusive software for the Vision Pro headset.
Additionally, the camera’s viewfinder now occupies a larger portion of the screen by default compared to iOS 18. As depicted in the renders, the camera controls are divided into two categories — Photo and Video — positioned at the bottom of the app. While most controls are located at the bottom, options for video resolution and frame rate remain at the top, where they seem more logically placed. Now there are just leaks and rumours and it is not certain if these changes that look and feel like VisionOS will actually be included in the Camera app or any other iOS 19 apps.
Design Upgrade Leaks
Now nothing official is confirmed yet and we will have to wait for an official keynote to get the complete view of the design changes that the iOS 19 will bring to the iPhone, popular leakster John Prosser, has shared a reported first look of the iOS 19 in his recent video.
Here’s what Prosser has shared about different elements of iOS 19:
Lock Screen: While there are no functional changes, the Lock Screen receives a notable visual update. In Prosser’s mockup, it closely resembles the current version, but some notifications now appear translucent, and the buttons feature a more 3D, floating effect.
Settings and Popups: Menu elements, popups, and buttons showcase a more rounded design with a “glassy” aesthetic.
Apps: App menus and buttons retain their rounded corners and circular layout, continuing the floating style inspired by visionOS.
Keyboard: The keyboard’s top has a more rounded appearance, with the entire keyboard adopting a visionOS-like “glassy” design. Prosser describes it as “almost looking like it’s floating.”
Support for RCS 3.0
Apple’s decision to adopt RCS messaging with iOS 18 may have been forced, but it was widely welcomed by users around the world. That said, iOS 18 only supports version 2.4 of the RCS messaging protocol, meaning iPhone users are still missing out on the new features and improvements announced by GSMA with RCS version 2.7.
In a recent statement, Apple confirmed that it plans to support end-to-end encryption in RCS messaging through future software updates. The company also noted that this would bring support for “RCS Universal Profile 3.0.”
While there’s no specific timeline yet for RCS version 3.0 support, Apple stated that it will arrive with future software upgrades. This suggests it could roll out sometime during the iOS 19 lifecycle.
iOS 19 Expected Release Timeline
The official dates for the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 has already been announced by Apple which will be held between June 9 to 13, 2025. The first day is reserved for the Keynote event for all the upcoming operating systems, such as iOS 19, watchOS 12, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16.
The developer beta of iOS 19 will be made available to the beta testers as the keynote ends. We can expect the release of the first public beta to come out one month after the first developer beta, as Apple usually does that, so the expected date for the release of the public beta could be somewhere in July 2025. Speaking of the stable iOS 19 update, September 2025 could be the month when we possibly get to see it, after the expected launch of the iPhone 17 series.
Some Delays Expected
The iOS 19 is anticipated with some major upgrades this time but you should be ready for some delays, as you might not get to see all the features at the launch itself. We should also be ready for a delayed timeline for the launch of OS itself which might get delayed from its usual launch timeline. As of now Apple is still not finished with the complete rollout of iOS 18, and some of the most anticipated Apple Intelligence features are yet to be rolled out which were most likely to be announced with iOS 18.4 update in March 2025.
Mark Gurman reports that Apple engineers are still rumoured to be working on iOS 18, even though they should have shifted focus to iOS 19 by now. As a result, the ongoing development and rollout of iOS 18 are causing delays, which means we may have to wait until spring 2026 to experience all the new features of iOS 19, as work on them is believed to be behind schedule.
For now our only sources are leaks and rumours giving rise to speculations of what the iOS 19 might bring with it this time. Official information is still behind curtains, so stay tuned as we bring you the latest updates.
