Apple has been in the news for the rumoured features of the upcoming iPhone 15 series recently that may witness a delayed launch this year. Among the highly-anticipated ones are the Action buttons that will likely replace the Mute Switch on the upcoming iPhones. And thanks to the latest iOS beta build, we might have extensive details about the tasks the new buttons may be capable of performing.
According to MacRumors, the code snippets in the software hint the functionality will be similar to something we have already seen in the Apple Watch Ultra's button. However, it will have more phone-centric features. The physical button will likely replace the existing Mute Switch for added functionality on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

It will allow users to perform functions on a handset without unlocking an iPhone and manually opening the app. Going by the snippets discovered in iOS 17 beta 4, the Action button could perform nine functions. The snippets mention the names of the features, and the report has speculated the functions of them.
Accessibility: It may allow users to access features in the accessibility tab ranging from Zoom to VoiceOver.
Shortcuts: This will likely allow users to perform any action configured in the Shortcuts app, such as playing songs from a playlist, sending a text message etc.
Silent Mode: As the name suggests, this will likely configure the device to silent mode and vice versa.
Camera: This may allow users to open the camera app and click photos or shoot videos.
Flashlight: Self-explanatory from the name, it may allow users to switch on the flashlight and turn it off.

Focus Mode: This could let users toggle Focus Mode from the Action Button itself.
Magnifier: This could allow users to use the Magnifier app of the device to zoom into objects for extra details.
Translate: This probably lets an iPhone user translate a language from the Translate app with a single press.
Voice Memos: As the name suggests, this will likely allow users to start and stop recording voice memos via the Voice Memos app.
