Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event gave us the new iPhone 17 lineup, fresh Apple Watches, and updated AirPods. While the keynote focused on the big announcements, several important updates went unmentioned. Here’s a closer look at the details Apple quietly left out.

Faster Charging – Except on the iPhone Air

The new Dynamic Power Adapter ($39/₹3,444) can push 40W, with bursts up to 60W. That lets the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max hit 50% in just 20 minutes—10 minutes quicker than last year’s models. Even better, they now support 25W Qi2 wireless charging without needing a MagSafe puck. The iPhone Air, however, is stuck with 20W wired charging, taking 30 minutes to reach the same level.

MagSafe Battery With a Catch

Apple’s MagSafe battery pack returns, but it only works with the iPhone Air due to the larger camera bumps on the other models. On the bright side, it can still juice up smaller accessories via USB-C.

Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) for Security

The iPhone 17 lineup brings a major security boost. MIE tags every memory block, blocking unauthorised access attempts—making Pegasus-style spyware attacks much harder to pull off.

Screen Flicker Fix for iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro introduces a PWM toggle to help users sensitive to screen flicker. It’s limited to the Pro model for now but could expand to others later.

Aluminium Frames Replace Titanium

Apple has swapped titanium for aluminium on the Pro models. The reason? Better heat dissipation. Combined with a vapour chamber, this should keep the A19 Pro chip cooler during demanding tasks.

FineWoven Isn’t Dead Yet

Despite criticism, FineWoven hasn’t disappeared. Apple is still using it for wallets and AirTag key rings, though not for iPhone cases.

iPhone Air Misses mmWave 5G

All iPhone 17 models support mmWave for ultra-fast 5G—except the Air. That means slower peak speeds if you opt for the lighter, slimmer variant.

Pro Models Get Faster USB Transfers

Only the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max support USB 3.0 speeds up to 10 Gbps. The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air remain limited to USB 2.0, maxing out at 480 Mbps. For heavy file transfers, that’s a big difference.

A Generation That Feels Refined

Apple may not have shouted about these changes, but together they make the iPhone 17 series one of the most polished updates in years. From faster charging to improved security and smarter design tweaks, this feels like a meaningful step forward.
