With the latest revelations, Apple seems to be working on a significant display revision with the upcoming release of the iPhone 17. For the first time, it appears that the base iPhone model will support a 6.3-inch screen size and feature a 120Hz refresh rate, making it somewhat competitive with Pro versions. If this becomes true, we could see a major shift for Apple's non-Pro iPhones, which are often centuries behind when it comes I screen features.
Let's dive into the details regarding even further upgrades that can be expected for iPhone 17's display.
iPhone 17 Display Specifications (Expected)
Larger 6.3-inch Display
- As shared by one of the known leakers, Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 17 is expected to have an increased screen size to 6.3 inches, which was seen in the iPhone 16 Pro models
- This is surely a massive upgrade from the current models, given how they sport an incrementally sized, better 6.1-inch display, such as on both iPhone 15 and 16 base models.
- The leak confirms earlier findings along with a now-suspended listing from Amazon India, wherein Spigen’s EZ Fit screen protector would fit both the iPhone 16 Pro as well as iPhone 17, which means their screens are likely compatible.
Model | Display Size (Expected) | Refresh Rate (Expected) |
iPhone 17 | 6.3 inches | 120Hz LTPO OLED |
iPhone 17 Air | 6.3 inches (rumoured) | 120Hz LTPO OLED |
iPhone 17 Pro | 6.3 inches | 1–120Hz Adaptive |
iPhone 17 Pro Max | 6.7 inches | 1–120Hz Adaptive |
120Hz LTPO OLED Comes to Non-Pro Models
- We can expect Apple to finally announce the use of 120Hz refresh rates on the non-Pro models with the introduction of the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air.
- This will improve smoothness, responsiveness, and energy efficiency because of the LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) OLED panel.
- Still, it seems very likely that Apple will keep “always-on display” features and 1Hz adaptive refresh restricted to Pro models like is done currently.
Samsung’s M14 OLED Panels for All Models
- All versions of the iPhone 17 are set to use Samsung’s M14 OLED panels, which were exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro devices until now.
- With these panels, brightness as well as efficiency and durability will be improved alongside a better overall display experience, increasing them even further.
The new features of Apple’s standard smartphone model are set to be released in an upgraded iPhone 17. It is almost closing the gap between Pro models with Apple’s usual 6.3-inch display screen, boasting a 120Hz refresh rate. The iPhone 17 keeps its specs better than the previous it remains a much better deal for average every day users.
