Apple's ultra-slim iPhone Air – which arrived last September 2025 – was supposed to impress with its sleek design but did not quite perform as expected. But that has not stopped the company, as it reportedly is hard at work on a sequel that remedies one key omission: a second rear camera.

iPhone Air 2 Could Feature Dual Camera Setup

The next-generation iPhone Air, possibly named the iPhone 18 Air, could feature a dual rear camera system, according to tipster Digital Chat Station. There's word of a possible 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor that may be found along with the 48-megapixel main camera on it, which may give photography enthusiasts a reason to consider the ultra-slim handset.

One of the mockups that has leaked shows a possible design that is almost identical to the current iPhone Air but with an added second lens on the camera module. The image is representational, but it still gives a hint at how Apple could focus on improving the photography of the Air without sacrificing an ounce of its trademark slimness.

Ultra Slim Design and Display to Remain

The new iPhone Air 2 is likely to use the same type of 6.5-inch screen with ProMotion and Face ID. The slim frame may stay, too. Yet, it remains to be seen if it's going to be as thin as the 5.6 mm currently existing model. From all the rumours and leaks, Apple seems determined to keep the Air ultra-thin, whereas Samsung apparently scrapped the Galaxy S26 Edge.

Performance Upgrades on the Horizon

Leaks also point to the A20 and A20 Pro chips in the coming iPhone 18 range. The A20 Pro chip in an iPhone Air 2 could combine improved performance with better efficiency, too. It will also continue to skip a physical SIM slot, like was the case with its predecessor.

Launch Timeline and Pricing The new iPhone Air 2 is tipped to form part of Apple's lineup in 2026, a lineup that will also include the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable device. These might be announced in September 2026, with more affordable variants, including the base iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e, reaching shelves in early 2027. Prices of the second-generation iPhone Air should be in line with the ongoing model that started at Rs 1,19,900 in India upon launch.
