Instagram Down Today: Meta-owned social media platform Instagram has been reported to have gone through outages on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, leaving thousands of users affected, according to a report by DownDetector. Outage reports started rising about three hours ago with a sudden spike in reports crossing 12,000 complaints at about 11:00 IST. In the meantime, users have been turning to other social media platforms to share their experiences and check if others are facing similar problems. “Is Instagram down? I can’t reply to my friend,” a user posted on Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

When Did It Start?
Although the company has not officially confirmed any outage so far or the reason for it, data from Downdetector.com indicates that the problems began around 7:40 am IST on March 11. A large share of users reporting the issue said they were unable to access the app properly. According to the tracking platform, about 71 percent of users complained about trouble opening or using the app, while roughly 20 percent said they were facing server connection issues.
A smaller group of users, around 5 percent, reported that their Instagram feed or timeline was not loading correctly.
According to Downdetector, at 12:58 PM IST the site showed 1,122 reports compared to a baseline of just 5 reports, indicating a massive surge in complaints.

Instagram Down: What Users Are Saying
As often happens during major social media disruptions, users quickly took to X to discuss the issue, and the platform was soon filled with reactions and memes about Instagram not working properly.
Some users specifically mentioned problems with direct messages. "Is Instagram down? My DMs aren't working," wrote one user. Another joked about the prolonged disruption, saying, "Instagram has been down for so long, I’m starting to go through withdrawals." A third user added, "Instagram dms are down today."
Major Areas Affected
Data from Downdetector suggests that a majority of users experienced problems accessing the app. Some also reported difficulties connecting to the server and issues while trying to post or publish content. The outage map shared on the platform indicated that several major cities, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Washington, and New York, were among the areas affected by the disruption.
