JE Technology Desk: Telecom service provider Reliance has announced the Jio Bharat V2 Phone in India at a starting price of Rs 999. With the move, Jio aims to accelerate the transition from 2G to 4G in the country. It aims to offer affordable access to Jio 4G network for users who still use 2G service on a feature phone. According to the press release, the beta testing for the first million devices will start on July 7.
While the country is rapidly transitioning towards 5G, Jio highlights that still, 250 million subscribers use 2G feature phones. The company adds that this category of users is among the most exploited, as they pay around Rs 200 to access voice services in a month while compromising on digital services such as internet connectivity.
Jio Bharat Phone has been launched to extend digital services to these users and the ones who cannot afford to buy a smartphone. Besides offering affordable and high-quality data to users, Reliance aims to curb the digital divide with the device.
Jio Bharat Plans: Rs 123 and Rs 1234

Jio Bharat Plan: Rs 123
The 28 days plan comes with 0.5GB data per day (14GB in total), which is seven times more than the competition and offers 30 per cent savings.
Jio Bharat Plan: Rs 1234
This annual plan offers 0.5GB data per day (168GB in total), again a seven times jump in data and 25 per cent savings.
