JIOCINEMA, an official streaming partner for India's beloved Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) that has broken all viewership records solely due to its free model, may soon begin charging users subscription fees to stream further after IPL gets concluded. The report further suggests that the platform is planning to add over 100 new movies and web series to the platform to enhance its portfolio.
JioCinema Subscription:
Given the JioCinema's huge popularity among the general public in India and other parts of the world, the company is reportedly planning to launch the subscription model shortly after the final IPL match on May 28.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Jyoti Deshpande, the company's media and content business President, stated that the company not only want to be known as a cricket broadcaster but also wants to compete with the market's leading competitors.
In addition, the company would begin charging for the content she revealed. However, she stated that there is still uncertainty about the price and timeline. The change would benefit the company's revenue and market position.
Furthermore, the company is planning to launch the new content before the end of the IPL 2023, but users will still be able to watch the IPL matches for free. She also stated that the company would make every effort to keep the platform as Indian as possible. Furthermore, she stated that the company would keep tariffs simple for the audience, according to the report.
However, it will be very interesting to see how the company prices its subscription and how it plans to compete with the already established Amazon Prime, Netflix, and other streaming services in the country.
Meanwhile, the platform has recorded over 147 crore views in the opening weekend of IPL 2023 which is still a record.
