Soon after introducing Llama 3-powered Meta AI across a wide range of countries, the Facebook parent is rolling out the AI tool in India. Set to be available in English, users will be able to use Meta AI across Meta apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. For context, the company announced its AI models for its social apps at Connect 2023.
With the new revamped Llama 3 capabilities, users of the stated Meta apps can use the model for a range of tasks such as text and image generation. Some of the cited examples include suggesting places to visit, creating MCQ tests and generating images for an imaginative furniture set. The AI chat assistant will also be available in the Facebook feed. Users can also ask the model for more information about a post.
On Instagram, the model can suggest Reels to users. On WhatsApp, users can also access Meta AI in group chats (with limited contextual understanding) apart from individual chats. Beyond textual interactions, users can also generate images by adding 'imagine' before textual prompts. Users can also animate the output.

"Found an image you love? Ask Meta AI to animate it or iterate on the image with friends by asking Meta AI to change the prompt," Meta said while introducing the text-to-image generation tool. Meta AI will also be available on meta.ai. Users can summon the AI assistant to get answers to a range of queries, text summarisation, proofreading, editing, translation and more.
Meta AI can fetch real-time results from Google and Microsoft Bing. For the unaware, the company was testing Meta AI across its social media apps in April with select users. The delayed release could be because of the general elections in India. The launch comes after the release of the Google Gemini app in nine Indian languages.
