Meta announced Llama 3 a few hours ago. Along with the upgraded large language model, the company announced the expansion of Meta AI to more countries and faster image generation via the Imagine feature. With the new updated Imagine, users can create photos from the text in real-time. The functionality is rolling out to beta testers on WhatsApp and Meta AI's new web experience - meta.ai in the US.

In the example shared by Meta, the image generates and changes in real-time with each new alphabet following the 'imagine' prompt' to Meta AI. The final "Imagine a soccer game on Mars" text generates an image while showing users a range of options during the typing process. Plus, Meta claims the output is "now sharper and of higher quality".

"You'll see an image appear as you start typing — and it'll change with every few letters typed, so you can watch as Meta AI brings your vision to life," Meta said. It is also better at including text in images now. After image generation, it can also provide helpful prompts to tweak the output for better results.

Apart from generating still photos, it can also animate images. "Found an image you love? Ask Meta AI to animate it, iterate on it in a new style or even turn it into a GIF to share with friends," Meta added. In its research note, the company highlighted Imagine Flash, "a novel distillation framework enabling high-fidelity few-step image generation with diffusion models".
