Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a slew of new features designed to improve the functionality of the recently introduced text-based social media application Threads. The ability to directly share posts in Instagram direct messages (DMs), a mention button, and custom alt-text options for photos and videos have been announced and will be available for use later this week.

"Directly share a post to your Instagram DMs," Zuckerberg said in a social media post, hinting at an upcoming feature for easier content sharing between Threads and Instagram.

Mention Button:

The addition of a mention button will make it easier to refer to other users' accounts within a conversation thread. Furthermore, users will be able to add custom alt-text to their photos or videos, improving accessibility and providing context to visually impaired users.

Real Link Features:

In an effort to enhance identity verification, Threads now supports real links, allowing users to link their Threads profile on compatible platforms like Mastodon to verify their identity.

Threads Desktop Version:

In response to user inquiries about a desktop web version, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri stated, "We're working on it! For the past week or so, we've been testing an early version internally. But it still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone."

Mosseri also revealed upcoming Threads features that were spotted earlier this week. He officially introduced the "Yours likes" option, which allows users to see a collection of their favourite posts. Furthermore, the ability to sort accounts that users follow will contribute to a more organised and personalised platform experience.
