Microsoft recently informed users that as of August 2026, Microsoft 365 will no longer add features to Office applications for Windows 10 users; security updates will still be provided until October 2028; however, if users wish to utilise the newest Office apps, they must move over to Windows 11.
Key Cutoff Dates for New Microsoft 365 Features on Windows 10
According to plan, Microsoft intends to phase out support for features over time:
August 2026 marks the discontinuation of new features for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family users, while Current Channel (business) customers also lose access to these innovations.
Monthly Enterprise Channel users lose access to new features on October 13, 2026.

January 12, 2027:
Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel users will no longer receive new features.
Microsoft has pledged to continue providing security updates for Microsoft 365 applications on Windows 10 until October 10, 2028.

Security Updates vs Feature Updates
Microsoft was under fire earlier this year for discontinuing security updates for Office apps running on Windows 10, yet did not publicly acknowledge until now that new feature updates would also cease as of 2026.
What it Means:
Remaining on Windows 10 means your Microsoft 365 applications will remain secure; however, no new productivity tools, layout changes or collaborative features will be released after the specified deadline.
