JE Technology Desk: Twitter has been in the news for several changes it is bringing to its platform lately. In the latest update, the company has restricted tweet visibility to users who do not have an account. If a user will try to view a user's activity from a browser window without signing into the browser from a Twitter account, they will be redirected to the sign-in window. Users can opt to create an account or sign in from an existing one to continue.
In the absence of an official announcement, users digested it as a technical glitch for some time until Elon Musk clarified in a tweet that it was an intentional move due to "extreme levels of data scraping" that was affecting the user experience and is a temporary move.

Replying to Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, who stated that Twitter is now "account walled", Musk said: "Several hundred organizations (maybe more) were scraping Twitter data extremely aggressively, to the point where it was affecting the real user experience."
The Tesla CEO added that almost every corporation working in the field of AI, from startups to big tech, is scraping this data to train their models. "It is rather galling to have to bring large numbers of servers online on an emergency basis just to facilitate some AI startup's outrageous valuation," he added.
Musk highlighted that Twitter "will take legal action" against the culprits who took this data. This may happen 2 to 3 years from now, he said. Iterating on a similar note, T(w)itter Daily News said that while Twitter aims to protect its data from free availability, this move reduces "Twitter's reach and exposure" to external links and embeds alongside raising privacy concerns.
Elon Musk is among the top CEOs who signed an open letter recently to pause the training of powerful AI models.
