Nothing has announced its next flagship true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds will be called the Nothing Ear (3). While its name might imply otherwise, this product actually represents its fourth in the series due to their earlier decision to remove numbers in earlier releases. There's been some confusion as a result.
A Naming Rollercoaster
- The first earbuds were the Nothing Ear (1), followed by the Nothing Ear (2).
- For its third product, the company ditched the numbering entirely and simply called them Nothing Ear — a move that many customers found confusing.
- Now, Nothing says it has “listened to feedback” and is reverting to a straightforward numerical naming scheme, hence Ear (3).
Why the Change?
Andrew Freshwater, Nothing’s Head of Global Smart Products Marketing, explained the shift:
“We listened to feedback regarding naming and understood that it was important for users to return to the straightforward numerical order we had attributed to Ear (1) and Ear (2).”
In other words, while the decision to simplify seemed bold at first, it ended up complicating things for buyers trying to figure out the product order.
What’s Next?
The Nothing Ear 3 will soon launch, though no exact date or details on specs and features have been made public by the company. With such a successful history of previous models from Nothing, expectations are high as to its successor's success in sound quality, battery life and ANC features as well as maintaining their trademark transparent design.
