Soon after electric vehicle maker Ola was trolled for their "excluding China" footnote during the launch event of their new lineup of motorcycles, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal is again gaining limelight for his online post on X (formerly Twitter). In his recent post, Aggarwal wondered why the '$' sign was not swapped with the '₹' sign in laptop keyboards sold in India. This triggered many X users who schooled the CEO for his remarks.
Taking to X (formerly called Twitter), @bhash shared a photo with a red highlight around the numeric laptop key '4' with a '$' sign on top. The CEO said: "Maybe this has something to do with it! Wonder why the $ is not replaced with ₹ in products sold in India." Aggarwal's post gained over 2.1 million views, 13,000 likes and 2,000+ reposts at the time of writing. The reactions also included over 2,700 comments.

Explaining the significance of the '$' sign, a user shared that the character is important in programming languages (such as perl and javascript, PHP and more) and Excel. While highlighting the Sankalp event presentation, another user pointed out that Ola should use the rupee sign instead of the USD sign first.
For context, Ola was heavily trolled for claiming to be the fourth-largest EV maker while pointing to the exception that the list does not include Chinese competitors. Moving back to other reactions, some recommended Bhavish ask the software engineers of Ola for a reason for having the $ sign on the number key. Here are a few more comments from X.

*excluding USD, GBP, EUR, SGD, AUD, CAD etc.
Why not have ‘ओला’ as a logo instead of OLA on your scooters first.

If so, please make all the components in India. Don’t just assemble Chinese components with ‘Made in India’ stamp.
In a follow-up post, Bhavish shared: "So many countries have their currency symbol on keyboards. Many have custom keyboards based on their language. Except India. Only few manufacturers add the ₹ symbol. ALL should." The comment box gained mixed reactions from Ola EV customers, users who supported his stance and others who trolled him for the post.
Looks like the keyboard is a real interest for many!
