JE Technology Desk: OpenAI, the company that grabbed eyeballs after announcing ChatGPT, has now introduced custom instructions for the AI model. It will let users share inputs they want the model to consider while framing the response. While the model accepted these instructions even before this feature, this will allow users to skip entering the same prompt repeatedly and add core points that the model will remember in future responses.

It is rolling out in Beta for Plus users, and all users will be covered soon. ChatGPT will consider the peculiar details (such as pros and cons in a table format) in future responses, the company highlights. It will let users "add preferences or requirements" to which they want the language model to remember in its memory.

"For example, a teacher crafting a lesson plan no longer has to repeat that they're teaching 3rd grade science. A developer preferring efficient code in a language that's not Python – they can say it once, and it's understood. Grocery shopping for a big family becomes easier, with the model accounting for 6 servings in the grocery list," OpenAI said in a blog post. Plus, this will also work with plugins.

Considering it will be a beta trial, the company highlights that the model might not always understand instructions and include them in its responses. Moreover, the information from custom instructions will be used to improve performance, the blog notes. However, a user can disable this from the data controls option.
