Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Greg Brockman and Sam Altman, former President and CEO OpenAI, would be joining Microsoft to head a new advanced AI research team.

"We remain dedicated to our cooperation with OpenAI and have faith in our product roadmap, capacity to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and ability to assist our customers and partners," Nadella wrote in a post to his X timeline.

"We look forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and the new leadership team at OpenAI, as well as collaborating with them," Nadella wrote in a tweet.

According to reports, Shear has been named OpenAI's acting CEO. "We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success."

In an unexpected move on Friday, Altman, the CEO and co-founder of OpenAI, the firm that created ChatGPT, resigned from the board and departed the artificial intelligence startup. There were ripple effects throughout the technological industry from this abrupt departure.

The board of OpenAI no longer has faith in Altman's capacity to run the company, the company said in a blog post on Friday. In addition, another co-founder of OpenAI, Greg Brockman, was stated in the blog post to resign as board chair while still being employed by the firm.

Altman's departure was announced in the position as the result of "a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities."

Major software businesses have been competing with OpenAI since ChatGPT's launch, and international leaders have been looking to Altman for advice and financial support.

OpenAI was first founded in 2015 as a nonprofit organisation with the mission of keeping cutting-edge AI out of the hands of monopolistic companies. However, the business changed to a for-profit organisation in 2019 following a sizable investment from Microsoft.
