PAN card new rules April 1 2026: Anyone who is trying to get or willing to get a new PAN card: this article is for you. Starting from April 1, there are some important changes that will be introduced that will change the way you get your PAN cards. Till now obtaining a PAN card was easy; you just had to show an Aadhar Card that was a valid proof of your identity, but new rules taking effect from next month will change this; the process is going to become a bit more complicated.

In fact, from after this month, Aadhar might not be sufficient enough to get or apply for a PAN card; additional documents confirming their date of birth, etc., will also be required. This is to strengthen document verification by the government.

What Documents Will Be Required?

Until now Aadhar was enough for you to get your hands on a new PAN card, but now, along with your Aadhar card, these other documents will also be required to get your PAN.

Birth Certificate

Voter ID card

10th mark sheet or passing certificate

Driving Licence

Passport

Affidavit verified by a magistrateB

So if you want to get your PAN card without the hassle of providing these documents, you have till March 31 to do so.

How To Apply Right Now Before March 31, 2026

Applying for a PAN card can be done entirely online as of now, without needing to visit any office or deal with physical paperwork, so people looking to get their hands on a PAN card before new rules apply must read this.

- Start by heading to the Protean website (Formerly NSDL website) and opening the Apply Online section. Once you’re there, pick Form 49A since it’s meant for Indian citizens, and choose “Individual” as your category. This is one of the three website alternatives a user can go to, the others are the UTIITSL portal and Income Tax e-Filing Portal (good for e-PAN),

- After that, just fill in your basic details like your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. When you submit this part, you’ll get a token number. Don’t ignore it, just save it somewhere because you might need it later.

- Next comes Aadhaar verification. You’ll get an OTP on your registered mobile number; enter that, and you’re good to move ahead.

-Then you’ll be asked to fill in your address and a few other details. Don't forget to recheck all the fields that you have filled so no mistakes occur and the process is smooth.

-Once that’s done, pay the application fee online. For the last step, just perform another Aadhaar OTP authentication and then proceed to finally submit your form. And that’s it; your PAN card application is successfully submitted.
