Google launched the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones at its 'Made By Google' event on October 4. The device comes with meaningful hardware and software upgrades. Like the previous generation of Pixel phones, the company laid special emphasis on the photo and video capabilities of the latest devices. Plus, the company introduced four new AI-powered features for the Google Photos app for the Pixel 8 series at the event.

Here are the details you should know about these features.

Best Take

Best Take can help improve group shots that incorporate multiple faces. It can help achieve a pleasing shot of people in the photo by altering their facial expressions, especially when people are "looking away or blinking." The feature uses a series of images to blend facial impressions and churn out a picture from everyone's best expression. Users can manually also select different looks for a face if they want.

Magic Editor

With Magic Editor, users can resize or reposition a subject in the frame. By tapping or circling the object, you can drag it to change its position or pinch it to increase or decrease its size. Contextual suggestions will help enhance the lighting and background (such as the sky). After selecting an edit, Magic Editor will offer multiple options which you can opt for. According to Google, the feature is in its "early stages" and might not work as desired always.

Audio Magic Eraser

Like Magic Editor for photos, this tool allows users to clip background noise from surroundings. It uses machine learning (ML) models and identifies sounds such as background noise, winds, and more and segregates them into layers that can be controlled with a few taps. These three features will be available for Pixel 8 series phones from October 12.

Zoom Enhance

Arriving soon on Pixel 8 Pro, Zoom Enhance fills the pixels and finer details in pictures once magnified to a certain limit using generative AI. It lets a viewer focus more precisely on important elements in photos.

Besides these four, the company introduced improvements for Magic Editor (for Pixel 8 Pro) to let users scrap out "even larger distractions" with shadows and objects for a high-quality image.
