With the launch of Redmi Buds 8, Xiaomi has brought new earbuds into its audio product line in China, and based on paper specifications, these earbuds are much more impressive than expected considering their price point. The Redmi Buds 8 are basically TWS earbuds that come loaded with many features in terms of performance, AI capabilities, and power efficiency.

In addition to the launch of these earbuds, Xiaomi has announced a wide range of other gadgets, such as the Redmi K90 Max, Redmi K Pad 2, and Redmi Book Pro 2026.

Price and Availability

The Redmi Buds 8 earbuds are available for CNY 229, which is equivalent to approximately Rs. 3,100. They are available in three colour options, including cyan, dusk black, and white, via Xiaomi’s official channels in China.

Focus on audio quality

At the core of the Redmi Buds 8 are 11mm dynamic drivers, paired with support for a wide frequency response range from 20Hz to 40kHz. The earbuds come with Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification, which signals a focus on delivering higher fidelity sound over Bluetooth.

Support for the LHDC codec is included, alongside standard SBC and AAC codecs. This allows compatible devices to stream higher quality audio with better detail and reduced compression.

ANC and Smarter Call Clarity

Redmi is pushing aggressive noise control with these earbuds, offering up to 50dB active noise cancellation. Users can switch between multiple modes, including depth, balanced, light, and an adaptive mode that adjusts based on surroundings.

The earbuds also feature a three-microphone design that comes with AI-driven call noise cancellation. It has been specifically designed to reduce wind noise by up to 12 metres per second.

In addition to these, transparency modes, which exist in various types, including regular, enhanced vocals, and environmental modes, are also available for those needing to observe their environment.

Connectivity & Smart Features

Redmi Buds 8 offer connectivity through Bluetooth 5.4 that connects up to 10 metres from the earbuds. Dual device connection, smooth switch and audio sharing are some smart features included for daily use.

Customisable through the Xiaomi Headphones app, there are gesture control commands offered by these earbuds. Single-touch photography is a function of the gesture control feature, among others.

Battery Life And Durability

Battery performance is another area where the Buds 8 aim to stand out. Each earbud packs a 54mAh battery, while the case includes a 475mAh unit.

Redmi claims up to 11 hours of playback on a single charge without ANC and up to 44 hours in total with the charging case. With ANC enabled, users can expect up to 6.5 hours on the earbuds and up to 28 hours combined.

The battery charging is done using the USB Type-C port, while the earbuds have been rated IP54 for protection against dust and water. With regard to weight, the individual earbuds weigh about 5g, while the complete set weighs roughly 44.5g.

A Slight Change In Budget Audio

The presence of some high-end characteristics such as Hi Res audio support, top-notch active noise cancellation, and enhanced voice call quality using AI technology makes me think that these earbuds could be changing the dynamics of budget audio devices.
