Reliance Jio, at its annual general meeting (AGM) today, announced plans to develop AI models, especially for India across various domains. During the event, Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of RIL, iterated that to stay competitive in these changing dynamics, India must explore the AI space for the purpose of economic growth and innovation.
According to Business Today, Jio pledged to make AI accessible to 'everyone, everywhere'. It plans to augment this via a foundation of 2000 MW computing capacity. With the move, the company aims to foray into the evolving AI landscape with special emphasis on generative AI.
"India has scale. India has data. India has talent. But we also need AI-ready digital infrastructure that can handle AI's immense computational demands. We stand committed to create up to 2000 MW of AI-ready computing capacity," Ambani said.
Updates on Jio Bharat OS and Jio True5G
The company announced a major update on Bharat OS. In an attempt to accelerate the pace of "2G-mukt Bharat", the company opened up its OS and its platform to partners. Kiran Thomas, President of RIL said that Karbonn is also developing Jio Bharat phones.
Besides opening up the OS, the company announced a Jio True5G Developer program, a platform that will be an amalgamation of "5G network, edge computing, and a spectrum of applications and service," Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio said.
A Jio True5G Lab to "accelerate industry transformation" and co-create solutions was announced at the event. It will be located at Reliance Corporate Park.
JioBharat 4G Now On Sale On Amazon
As for more updates around Jio, the company's latest feature phone with 4G connectivity is now on sale on the e-commerce website Amazon. Priced at Rs 999, Jio Bharat has a 1.77-inch display, 1000mAh battery and microSD card support up to 128GB. The device supports 23 languages and supports JioPay, JioSaavn and JioCinema apps.
