Samsung might be reducing a part of its flagship Galaxy S Series with the addition of S26. As per a new report from South Korea, S26+ will be omitted from the list and is predicted to be released in 2026. Instead, Samsung is expected to prepopulate the slot with S26 Edge, which is predicted to be in between the regular and Ultra variants.
If this holds, the Galaxy S26 lineup will include just three models:
- Galaxy S26 – 6.27-inch display
- Galaxy S26 Edge – 6.66-inch display
- Galaxy S26 Ultra – 6.89-inch display
This would mark the end of the Plus model, which has been a staple of the Galaxy S series for years.

Why Samsung Might Be Dropping the Plus Model
This change is still aligned with Samsung’s approach as it already released S25 Edge it this year accompanied with a clone of S25+ 6.66 inch screen but constructed in a slimmer fashion. That came with a price, having one camera less and a downsized batterie.
It is also important to mention other competitors in the market. Apple has also been reported to be planning the replacement of the iPhone 16 Plus with the iPhone 17 Air come 2026. Samsung must be dealing with similar internal sales numbers.
In both Apple and Samsung’s ecosystems, the “Plus” models appear to underperform in sales relative to their base and Ultra models. Exiting the Plus may streamline the lineup and improve margins.
What’s the Catch?
While the Edge will likely appeal to users who want a slightly larger display than the base model without going full Ultra, it won’t be a perfect replacement:
- The Edge will reportedly have fewer features than the Plus did (notably, one less rear camera).
- It may also pack a smaller battery due to its thinner chassis.
- And it will likely be more expensive than the S25+ it replaces.
That leaves users with two not-so-ideal choices:
- Get the Edge: Slightly pricier, with reduced battery and camera capability.
- Upgrade to the Ultra: Top-tier everything, but heavier and more expensive.
What This Means for Samsung
This partially explains the decision to remove the Plus variant. Business-wise, it does support the rest of their strategy. S Ultra is still the best series for margins, increasing the average selling price (ASP) of the series by setting the price higher for Edge than Plus works in Samsung’s favour.
For dedicated fans of the Galaxy S+ who appreciated the equilibrium between dimensions, battery life, and cost, the forthcoming 2026 lineup seems disappointing.
Samsung seems to be discontinuing the Galaxy S26+ variant in favour of the S26 Edge. While the Edge might retain the screen size, it is likely to offer less functionality at a higher price, which would shift more consumers toward the Ultra version. Only time will tell if this approach proves beneficial or disappointing to devoted fans.
