WhatsApp regularly grabs headlines for introducing new features on its app. Soon after the enhancements around Channels, in the latest move, the company is developing a feature called "secret code" for locked chats on the platform. It will be supported across linked devices and may arrive in a future version of the app.

According to WABetaInfo, the option is under development and has not been released for beta testers. However, it was spotted in Android beta version "2.23.21.9." In the screenshot shared in the report, it is evident the company is working to let users set a secret code to access the chat folder. The new page will allow users to view chats within the search bar.

"Unlock your chats with a secret code instead of your phone's PIN," the description for the feature reads. This could mean if you configure this code, people who know your smartphone PIN will not be able to access the locked chats.

"Secret code allows you to find locked chats in the search bar or access this from the companion device," the menu explainer reads in the screengrab. Once a secret code is configured, users will be able to lock chats from a companion device. WhatsApp recommends that users choose a word or an emoji for easy recall.

This feature is a relief for those who complained that locked chats must be available on companion devices for better feature integration across platforms. With the arrival of this feature, it seems the Meta-owned company plans to curb this challenge. The purpose is also to bolster the accessibility and privacy of locked chats across linked gadgets and improve the user experience.

Due to its underdevelopment character, the feature is not available for enrolled testers at the moment. You can update your Android or iOS beta app to experience this feature whenever it is released.
