Snap has unveiled Snap OS 2.0, the next-generation operating system powering its Spectacles, set to roll out ahead of the product’s wider release in 2026. The update introduces new ways to browse, watch, share, and interact with augmented reality, signalling Snap’s bigger push into everyday wearable computing.
A smarter, more flexible browser
The browser has been completely redesigned with a cleaner look and faster performance. Snap says it now loads pages quicker while conserving power. Users can browse with touch or voice controls, refresh with ease, and manage history more intuitively.

New tools like widgets, bookmarks, and a customisable toolbar add laptop-like flexibility. The option to resize windows takes multitasking further, while WebXR support enables AR experiences directly from websites.
Spotlight gets an AR twist.
Spotlight, Snap’s discovery hub, has been reimagined for Spectacles. With the Spotlight Lens, vertical videos can now be overlaid onto real-world surroundings. Users can pin a video to one place or keep it in view while moving, bringing creator content into their daily environment without relying on a phone screen.
Gallery Lens and Travel Mode
Snap OS 2.0 also adds the Gallery Lens, giving users a 3D carousel to explore memories captured with Spectacles. They can zoom in, organise favourites, and share clips directly to Snapchat or with friends.
For people on the go, a new Travel Mode keeps AR content steady even when moving in planes, trains, or cars, ensuring digital overlays remain locked in place.

Growing Lens ecosystem
Snap continues to expand its developer network, with creators from more than 30 countries building unique Lenses. Popular ones like SightCraft, NavigatAR, and Pool Assist are already available. The lineup will soon include Synth Riders, a rhythm-based dance game where players can interact with music and visuals while staying connected to their real-world surroundings.
