SNAPCHAT has introduced a new AR (augmented reality) filter that can give users a glimpse into how their nails will look once painted with a particular shade. The AR lens applies colour and 2D designs onto your nails, giving users the comfort to virtually try out different shades before polishing them onto their fingernails, according to The Verge.
The Nail Lacquer Lens, announced by Snapchat in partnership with OPI (a nail salon), allows Snapchatters to check out eight "OG" nail polish shades. It features Nail Segmentation, a new Snap AR technology. Users can find the new filter in the Lens Carousel section.
"Easily swipe on colours, no nail polish remover necessary," the company said in a blog. Other than this, Snap partnered with Supergoop! to allow users to apply Lipshade colours to explore what looks best on them while not actually putting on one in real life.
Mia Sato, from the media outlet, reported that the Nail shade feature tends to "get glitchy" when the hands are placed in a certain way. Snapchat added features ranging from lipsticks to clothes and more that can be experimented with via the camera. Some of these elements have an e-commerce angle to them. Like the Amazon partnership that allows users to explore and purchase sunglasses. However, the nail colour does not bring the buying urge into the picture.
But, the platform notes, it is in consonance with Snapchat's vision around AR shopping. "With the Snap Camera, every product is personalized to the shopper, allowing you to try on items in your own space, to make more informed decisions. We can't wait to see how Snapchatters use, share, and shop these new Lenses from Supergoop! and OPI."
Meanwhile, speaking of other updates, Snapchat recently announced that it crossed over 200 million monthly active users in India. As per IANS, Snap said it would continue to invest in India through local content initiatives, partnerships and localised platform experience, and would dedicate focus towards regional creators through Stories and Spotlight.
