Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Launched: Qualcomm has just introduced its new generation of mobile CPU the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, which is the successor to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. This CPU is here to cater to mid-range smartphones and is destined to feature in popular OEMs, that include Realme, OPPO and Honor in the upcoming months. The processor crafted on 4nm process technology is claimed to be designed for universal usage, with the power to support 4K gaming and lossless audio. It also brings first-in-series Gen AI support to give a boost to your creative side, and with its luminous capture you can capture your memories both day and night. It also boasts an extended battery life and also takes advantage of its ultra-fast 5G connectivity. Let's dive into the details of this new chip.
Performance
The 6 Gen 4 chip comes with one prime core clocking at 2.3 GHZ, three performance cores at 2.2GHz and four efficiency cores running at 1.8 GHz which is a 1+3+4 CPU structure, which is different from its predecessor the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 which runs on 4+4 CPU structure.
The chipmaker has claimed a boost of at least 11% in CPU performance, thanks to the newly crafted Kyro CPU from Qualcomm, and a 29% boost in GPU performance the credit for which goes to the supercharged Qualcomm Adreno GPU. It promises to bring fluid and crisp visuals for your gaming, scrolling and streaming experience, which is backed by power backup that lasts longer with a 12% increase in power savings.
Packed With AI (Artificial Intelligence)
The chip promises to enhance your productivity with Gen AI support that will power virtual assistants, assist with content summarization, email drafting, and more all on the device.
With its INT4 support, the chip claims to bring faster and more efficient performance, which is a first in Snapdragon 6-series CPUs.
On top of that, the chip also offers Activity tracking for personalized app recommendations from the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, with settings adjustments made possible by the Qualcomm AI Engine.
It also claims to boost your audio quality with AI-driven noise cancellation, noise reduction, and contextual detection.
What Is Luminous Capture?
This feature promises to deliver flawless photography in low light. Apart from that now you will be able to take photos and record videos simultaneously with Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP. It also reduces noise to capture images with brightly lit backgrounds and also for videos after dark with the help of Snapdragon's Low-Light Vision (LLV).
It also claims to provide better detailing, even when you are zoomed in, with 200 MP single-shot captures.
Lossless Audio
Qualcomm aptX® lossless audio streaming ensures high-quality sound over Bluetooth technology. Snapdragon Sound technology provides strong connectivity for seamless, lag-free listening and immersive gaming experiences. Additionally, LE Audio enables broadcasting music across multiple devices, enhancing audio-sharing capabilities.
Connectivity
The Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System with 3GPP Release 16 5G provides faster speeds and supports a wider range of global networks compared to its predecessor. Navigation accuracy is enhanced with new Triple Frequency Location support (L1/L5/L2). The Qualcomm® FastConnect™ Mobile Connectivity System ensures fast and responsive Wi-Fi 6E. Whether at home or gaming on the go, stay seamlessly connected with advanced 5G and Wi-Fi 6E technology.
For The Gamers
With this chipset, you get an Adreno GPU which will support some of the Snapdragon Elite gaming features. You get the Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 4K upscaling, Adreno HDR (HDR10+, HDR10, and HDR vivid) for a higher dynamic range and also the Adreno Frame Motion Engine for an enhanced frame rate experience.
Display
It can support an FHD+ display at a good 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports up to 4K at 60 Hz for external displays with a 10-bit color dept and HDR10 and HDR 10+ support.
Memory
The chip supports LP-DDR5 memory with up to 3200 MHz and LP-DDR4X memory with up to 2133 MHz and comes with a memory density of up to 16 GB.
All in all this chip looks like a solid deal when it comes to mid-range performance. It also sports features from the elite version for gaming which is good news for those who really want to get those smooth frame rates. Loaded with AI which is a first for Snapdragon Gen-6 CPUs by Qualcomm. It would be interesting to see how it performs in action.
