Sony FX2 Launched: Sony has officially unveiled the FX2, the newest member of its Cinema Line, designed for independent filmmakers, small crews, and solo creators who desire cinematic images without the weight of large equipment.

Specs And Features

At the core of the FX2 is a 33 MP full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R sensor, offering over 15 stops of dynamic range with S-Log3. Dual base ISOs at 800 and 4000 allow the camera to perform reliably across lighting conditions, from daylight to low-light setups.

The camera accommodates a broad range of professional codecs, such as 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra, and can capture DCI 4K at 24p and 4K 60p. An improved internal cooling system allows for continuous shooting up to 13 hours.

For slow-motion requirements, it can capture Full HD at a rate of up to 120 fps. Post-production versatility is added with Cine EI modes, 16 user LUT support, a specific log shooting mode, and a built-in de-squeeze for anamorphic lenses. The S-Cinetone profile is enabled by default for a cinematic aesthetic straight out of the box.

Compact and ready to roll, the FX2 has a flat-top, cage-less body with multiple points of attachment. Added is a new top handle—available in a package—is improved grip plus pro-quality audio features, including two XLR inputs and four-channel recording at 24 bits.

Autofocus has made a giant leap with Real-Time Recognition AF and subject tracking that incorporates people, animals, vehicles, and even insects. Features such as AF Assist and breathing compensation assist with fine-tuning focus control.

Solo shooters are aided by intelligent features such as Auto Framing and Framing Stabiliser, essentially providing the benefit of a second camera operator. The FX2 also allows for 33 MP stills capture and provides still shooters with tools suited for them too.

Hardware consists of a 3.68M-dot electronic viewfinder with a deep eyecup, a vari-angle LCD touchscreen, vertical shooting capability, custom function buttons, and a refreshed "BIG6" quick menu for efficient operation.

Connectivity is strong: HDMI Type-A 16-bit RAW output, USB-C Power Delivery, dual-band Wi-Fi, adapter-cabled LAN, and native stream capability prepare the FX2 for studio as well as remote production workflows.

Availability And Price

The Sony FX2 will be available in early August. The price will be $2,699.99 USD body only and $3,099.99 with the XLR handle kit. It will be sold by Sony and authorised retailers in North America.
