Sony WF-1000XM6 Launch Date Revealed

In a post on X, Sony confirmed that its latest in-line true wireless headset will make its debut on February 12 at 8 am PT/9:30 pm IST. These supposed headsets are expected to be the WF-1000XM6, which the tech giant will launch three years after its predecessor, the WF-1000XM5, was launched. Now Sony has not revealed much about what's coming, but the teaser aligns with recent leaks.

As far as tech specs are concerned, this might be Sony's first TWS earbuds that employ DSEE Ultimate, which runs on MediaTek's MT2855 chip, which can deliver real-time audio upscaling and much better sound when compared to previous models. Leaks and rumors have pointed towards enhanced ANC and amped-up battery life and performance, but this might also mean a possible price hike. The earbuds are expected to support an IPX4 rating for water resistance.

The current WF-1000XM5 comes with 8.4 mm Dynamic Driver X; powering it are Integrated Processor V2 and QN2e chips for better noise cancellation. They also have support for SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 codecs, paired with DSEE Extreme upscaling and Ambient Sound Mode. For better call quality, the device employs bone conduction sensors and DNN processing.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 covers all the connectivity basics and then some, with Bluetooth 5.3, Google Fast Pair, multipoint pairing, head tracking, and 360 Reality Audio, all managed through the Headphones Connect app. You also get an IPX4 rating for everyday protection.

Battery life is rated at up to eight hours with ANC on, stretching to 12 hours without it, while the case pushes total playback to 24 hours. Wireless and fast charging are supported. Each earbud weighs 5.9 g, with the case bringing the total to 39 g.

The headset is expected to be priced at EUR 299.99 in Europe, which is approximately Rs 32,500, and $329.99 in the US, which is almost Rs 30,200. But still nothing is officially confirmed, and a company announcement on it will clarify further what the pricing might be like.
