The Sony WF-1000XM6 has been launched in international markets as the successor to the highly successful Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds. The latest truly wireless earbuds come with a host of improvements in noise cancellation, audio processing, calling, and design, while retaining the same experience that made the previous one a favourite among users.

According to Sony, the WF-1000XM6 offers 25 per cent better active noise cancellation than its predecessor. There is a special emphasis on the reduction of mid- to high-frequency noise. This is powered by the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, paired with four upgraded microphones that work together to block out surrounding sound more effectively.

Audio performance has also been refined. The earbuds come with a dual-processor configuration that has the QN3e processor for improved DAC amplifier performance and the Integrated Processor V2, which has upgraded its processing capabilities from 24-bit to 32-bit, as opposed to the previous 24-bit system. Sony has also incorporated a new driver design with a new diaphragm that is intended to deliver deeper bass with more clarity in the higher frequencies.

On the software side, the WF-1000XM6 supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme upscaling, 360 Reality Audio compatibility, and a customisable 10-band equaliser through the Sony Sound Connect app. Head tracking and background music effects are also included, offering a more immersive listening experience.

For calls, Sony has equipped each earbud with two microphones and a bone-conduction sensor. Combined with AI-based beamforming noise reduction, the system is designed to isolate the user’s voice more accurately, even in noisy surroundings. The earbuds themselves have been subtly redesigned to better follow the natural shape of the inner ear, and Sony says they are around 11 per cent thinner than the previous model.

The WF-1000XM6 carries forward features such as Adaptive Sound Control, Auto Play, and Quick Access, while also adding support for Gemini voice assistance, including hands-free interaction via Gemini Live. Connectivity has been improved with larger antennas and smarter algorithms for more stable performance, along with support for Bluetooth LE Audio for lower latency.

Battery life remains unchanged. Sony claims up to 12 hours of playback with ANC turned off, which drops to around 8 hours with ANC enabled. Charging is supported via USB Type-C as well as wireless charging. The earbuds are rated IPX4 for splash resistance, while the charging case measures 61.6 x 41.1 x 26.5mm and weighs 47 grams.

In the US, the Sony WF-1000XM6 is priced at $329.99 and is available in Black and Platinum Silver through Sony’s official store, Amazon, Best Buy, and other authorised retailers. Sony has not yet confirmed an India launch timeline for the new earbuds.
