Elon Musk’s Starlink has secured spectrum approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) after a long battle with the department, reports The Economic Times. Approva With the approval, the satellite broadband provider is ready to begin fully operations “very soon.

The company is activating its ground network and performing safety checks, the reports said. The company is constructing base stations at 10 sites across the country, with Mumbai as its central operating hub. From these gateways, all satellite data communications will be managed and routed in the network following entry into commercial service.

Starlink Price and Plans in India

The leaked details indicate that the India pricing of Starlink will be as follows:

Cost of setting up the hardware: ₹30,000 or so It cost me an upgraded 5 year old phone in actuality.

Monthly plans: From ₹3,300 (per month pricing varies by region and usage tier)

This makes Starlink more of a premium service, but one that could offer revolutionary connectivity to under-served rural and remote areas where traditional broadband has failed to make strong in-roads.

Starlink Internet Speed and Performance

Starlink services in India are expected to offer:

Entry-level speeds: 25–50 Mbps

Higher plan levels: Up to 220 Mbps

For a lot of rural areas, that is much faster than the existing broadband available and has the potential to be a game-changer for digital inclusion.

The government, however, is capping Starlink at 2 million connections nationwide during the initial rollout, so there may not be availability for all who are interested at launch.

Starlink India Launch Timeline

Starlink currently awaits the final approval from the SATCOM gateway and spectrum acquisition as they hold spectrum clearance. If everything goes as expected, the Starlink services in India could go live in between December 2025 and January 2026
