Starlink India: SpaceX's satellite internet service, Starlink, is set to launch in India with major regulatory milestones already completed. The company has obtained a Letter of Intent (LoI) from India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and is now awaiting a Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) licence to proceed with the installation of satellite terminals.
As per recent reports, Starlink has fulfilled all the security parameters specified in the LoI. Upon receiving the GMPCS licence, the firm will require last-minute approval from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (In-SPACe) before commencing operations in the nation officially.

Starlink India Launch Timeline
Although SpaceX has not mentioned a set launch date, Starlink is likely to start operating in India later this year or early 2025. The schedule relies heavily on the completion of licensing processes and In-SPACe regulatory approvals.
Starlink in India: Pricing, Plans, and Speed Expectations
Pricing information for Starlink's service in India remains officially unannounced. Though, preliminary reports indicate that SpaceX could provide unlimited data plans for less than $10 (₹840) as a promotional offer. Nevertheless, India's telecom regulator TRAI has mooted a new pricing system—city users will pay ₹500 per month, while additional charges will involve a 4 per cent contribution to adjusted gross revenue and an annual satellite spectrum charge of ₹3,500 per MHz. A separate 8 per cent commercial operation licence fee would also be required.
In the US, Starlink's regular service will cost $349 (approximately ₹30,000), and its mini hardware kit will cost $599 (approximately ₹43,000). Pricing for hardware in the Indian market has not been decided upon yet.
Performance-wise, Starlink is likely to provide internet speeds of between 25 Mbps and 220 Mbps, depending on satellite coverage and geographic location.
With regulatory clearances advancing and infrastructure planning underway, Starlink's entry may materially broaden internet penetration in India's underserved areas, particularly rural or remote locations.
