Tecno has launched a new budget phone in India, called the Tecno Pop X. It sits in the entry-level category, but it tries to offer a few features that you don’t always see at this price point.

The Tecno Pop X is priced at Rs. 8,499 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. There’s only one configuration right now, and it comes in two colour options. The phone will go on sale from March 6 through Amazon as well as offline retail stores. If you’re using an eligible HDFC Bank card, you can get it at a discounted price of Rs. 7,749 as part of the launch offer.

Now, for a budget device, the display is probably the most noticeable part. The Pop X comes with a 6.75-inch HD+ LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. That means smoother scrolling and a slightly more fluid feel while using apps or browsing. Most phones in this segment still stick to 60Hz, so this is a clear highlight here.

It runs on Android 15 with Tecno’s HiOS 15 skin on top. Interestingly, the company hasn’t revealed which chipset is powering the phone yet. What we do know is that it comes with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage.

On the back, the design gives the impression of a dual-camera setup, but there’s actually a single 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.85 aperture. For selfies and video calls, you get an 8-megapixel front camera. Nothing flashy, but pretty standard for this price range.

One thing that stands out is the IP64 rating. That means the phone is resistant to dust and water splashes, which isn’t very common in entry-level smartphones. You also get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for quick unlocking.

The Tecno Pop X packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W charging. For most users, that capacity should easily get through a full day on moderate use.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and USB Type-C. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, which many budget buyers still appreciate.

Another interesting addition is support for calling nearby users even without a cellular network connection, something we’ve started seeing on a few recently launched smartphones. It could come in handy in areas with weak or no signal.

Overall, the Tecno Pop X doesn’t try to reinvent anything, but it does bring together a smooth display, solid battery life, and basic durability features at an affordable price point.
