TRAI Recharge Guidelines & Validity Rules: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has introduced a new set of rules that will extend the duration of recharges with the primary aim of reducing the expenses of the users due to repeated recharges. This new rule will also help users who have not recharged their secondary SIM cards by keeping them active for more days.
This TRAI rule will be applicable to SIM cards offered by Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, BSNL, and Vodafone Idea. Mobile users will be able to avoid repeated recharges to keep the card active and enjoy the benefits for a longer period of time. However, each TSP (Telecom Service Provider) will have its own validity rules.
Jio Validity Rules
Reliance Jio will let its SIM card users keep it active for more than 90 days after the plan has met its expiration. After the 90-month period ends the user will have to opt for a reactivation plan. During the period of 90 days, the user will be able to get incoming calls for a month or a week based on their plan. But if in case the Jio SIM user does not recharge or fails to recharge the number will be allocated to someone else.
BSNL Validity Rules
The government-owned telecom company currently offers the highest 180-day activation period once the recharge plan has expired. The BSNL SIM card holder's plan will remain active for a period of six months without the recharge and then later they can opt for continuation of their services by choosing a plan.
Airtel Validity Rules
Airtel still offers its users the standard 90 days to keep their SIM cards in service. After this period of roughly three months, users will have to choose a valid recharge plan to continue their Airtel services. Airtel is also offering a grace period of 15 days after 90 days to reactivate the respective mobile number. If the recharge is still not done the user's SIM card will be allocated to someone else.
Vi Validity ules
Vodafone Idea users can their SIM cards for 90 days without any active recharge plan. However, if the user wishes to continue the services for a longer period of time after the main plan has expired, they have to do a minimum recharge of at least INR 49. Besides that, SIM card holders can also extend their validity by keeping an INR 20 prepaid balance in their number. If mobile users do not recharge and keep their card active for 30 days, this amount will be automatically deducted.
