Twitter, a prominent microblogging platform, has been in the news since billionaire Elon Musk took over as CEO. Everyone, including celebrities, sports figures, politicians, and other influencers, is using it to offer their thoughts on various events, and it appears to be evolving into a business.
Elon Musk has stated in a new update that Twitter would be rebranded to X, with a new logo and user experience. The team appears to be planning something huge for the microblogging platform, including the incorporation of AI to make it an all-in-one tool.
Twitter has undergone significant changes, including a new subscription model, new features, and more. The following is a timeline of the key changes made to the platform.
1. Twitter Blue:
The first step after the takeover was Musk's Twitter Blue Subscription. Removing the old verification process, Musk offered a Blue badge with the subscription fee. It also offered some new features including the ability to tweet with more characters, see half of ads and get priorities. However, it faced a backlash after plenty of celebs and businesses became targets of impersonations after which he introduced three different badges, including blue for Twitter Blue users, gold for businesses and grey for official accounts.

2. Blue Badge Return For Celebs, Influencers:
Soon after Musk faced backlash from users all over the world, the platform started rolling back the blue ticks for celebrities in order to tell people that they are not fake. However, it again sparked a controversy as the platform offered blue ticks to those celebs who are dead and cannot verify their phone number and authenticity. It is still unknown how it was done.
3. Mass Layoffs:
The company during the initial takeover was in the headlines because of the cost-cutting measure. Later, Musk fired more than half of the workforce, including the top management and engineers. Other employees were asked to do work dedicatedly, even more than the assigned daily work hours.
4. Active Users And Technical Disruptions:
Twitter reportedly got around 200 million daily active users but still faced technical issues which included frequent outages. Musk also introduced a variety of new features, including the For You and Following Tab.
5. Competition:
Since Musk implemented a lot of restrictions, the daily active users started to migrate to other applications like Mastodon. Meanwhile, Meta has recently introduced its Thread application which is backed by Instagram. The platform hit around 150 million users within a few days of launch and became the fastest-growing application all over the world.
6. New Logo:
Musk has now officially changed the logo and name of Twitter to X. Not only that, Musk is also planning to integrate artificial intelligence and other new significant technologies into the platform. Even if the user put X.com on the web, they will be redirected to Twitter.
7. X Corporation:
Musk's new company, X Corporation, is now Twitter's parent company. He has also stated that a new insignia should be "of course, Art Deco," and that a post would be referred to as "an X" under the site's new identity.
