Aadhaar Card Update: If you've been putting off updating your Aadhaar details, now's a good time to act. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is offering free online updates — but only until June 14, 2025. After that, you’ll need to pay a small fee of Rs 50 for any changes.
You can update your Aadhaar from the comfort of your home via the myAadhaar portal, without visiting any centre — but only for select demographic details. And according to UIDAI’s regulations, you’re required to update your Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) every 10 years.
What Can You Update Online for Free?
Through the portal, you can update the following information without any charges:
-Name (within certain character limits)
-Date of Birth
-Address
-Gender
-Language preferences
Note: Biometric data — like fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs — cannot be updated online. For those, you’ll need to visit an Aadhaar update centre. You can locate the nearest centre by entering your PIN code on the UIDAI website.
How to Update Aadhaar Details Online
Here’s a simple walkthrough to help you update your Aadhaar details:
1. Go to the official UIDAI website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
2. Click on the blue “Login” button.
3. Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha code, then request an OTP.
4. Submit the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to log in.
5. Check if your current identity and address proof are up to date.
6. If not, click on the “Document Update” option in the top right corner.
7. Select the type of update you need from the dropdown menu and upload the necessary documents.
8. Review everything and hit submit.
Once submitted, you’ll receive a Service Request Number (SRN) that you can use to track the status of your update.
So if your Aadhaar info needs refreshing, don’t wait — take advantage of the free service before the June 14 deadline.
