APPLE is gearing up to host the WWDC 2023 event next month. It is anticipated that the tech giant would unveil new software and hardware products at the event. And the latest reveals hint that Apple's watchOS 10 would witness an overhaul in the upcoming iteration, as per Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

The tech giant may reveal the "biggest software updates" since its first release with an enhanced focus on widgets and changes as to how they operate. Initially, watchOS focused on four areas - watch faces, widgets UI known as Glances, a home screen with icons and the often contacts space. Later the tech giant revised plans and dropped widgets and the menu for frequent contacts to stress multitasking and notifications.

Apps in the watchOS were an integral part of the design changes throughout. In the latest changes, Apple might reintroduce widgets and give them a prominent space in the UI. The new apparatus could be a mix of the traditional Glances and the widget structure of iOS 14. It could allow users to scroll across different widgets for operations such as skimming weather updates, calendar events, activity trackers etc.

This new UI will look similar to Siri watch face that debuted in watchOS 4, with an overlay. It would be comparable to stacks, an option that allows users to consolidate and scroll across widgets.

To accommodate these changes, Apple is also planning to alter the functions of buttons integrated into the watch. Gurman speculates that the newly optimised crown could trigger widgets once pressed, unlike opening the home screen in the current scenario.

Further, Gurman believes that the upcoming generation of the Apple Watch could come with minor hardware tweaks considering the latest series already witnessed big hardware upgrades from its predecessor. Alongside the wearable OS, macOS 14, 15-inch MacBook Air and iOS 17 will likely debut with the highly hyped-up MR headset.

Meanwhile, Apple is also planning an AI coach, Quartz, for health and fitness. It would be a paid service that would encourage users to exercise, sleep efficiently and inculcate healthy eating.
