WhatsApp users who were troubled by the spam calls and messages in the past few weeks finally have some good news. The Meta-owned platform has now introduced a new feature that will let users automatically silence calls from unknown numbers. The feature is now available after over 500 million users have complained about the increase in spam calls.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the call silencing tool on his social networking sites, along with a dedicated new privacy checking option. According to the post, users will be able to enable the option by going to Settings. "You can now automatically silence incoming WhatsApp calls from unknown contacts for even more privacy and control," he explained.
WhatsApp has announced that calls from unknown numbers would be automatically hushed and displayed in alerts and the application's call list, where they may be checked later to see if they were from someone the user knows and the number is not saved.
In addition, the instant messaging network has announced the implementation of a new privacy inspection feature, which will be available in the Privacy option in settings. The newly added option will guide the user through a series of stages that will teach them about various privacy settings such as "Choose who can contact you," "Control your personal info," "Add more privacy to your chats," and "Add more protection to your account."
Users can enable the feature by visiting Settings > Privacy > Calls and then selecting the “Silence unknown caller” option.
Using this method, users can also adjust settings such as two-factor authentication, who to add to the group, tailor disappearing messages, and control the display picture options.
Previously, the company released a back-end update that assisted in lowering spam calls in India. It also stated that it has increased its machine learning-based detection capability and expects the number of calls to be cut in half.
