WhatsApp Group Events Feature: Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp tests new features for users at regular intervals. In the latest build to improve the experience of group-based event planning, the company is introducing an event feature for group chats within the app for Android beta testers and many stable build users. According to WABetaInfo, the update is rolling out in the beta '2.24.14.9' version.
As per the report, this feature comes after a recent test with community group chats in April 2024 on Android. The update aimed to let community members create and manage activities such as online meetings and social meets. However, this feature is now extending to regular groups to improve coordination for events.
Beta testers and users can update their app from the Google Play Store to see if the feature is rolling out for their version. The option shows up after pressing the attachment clip icon. You can press the "Event" button and enter the details. These include entering the event name, optional description, date and time and location. If a WhatsApp video or audio call link is required, you can tap the "WhatsApp call link" option.

After the creation, members can view and accept the event note. The WhatsApp tracker noted these events are end-to-end encrypted. This ensures only the participant of a group can access these details. The upcoming enhancement could include event reminders and cover photos for events, WABetaInfo speculated. These updates will help improve event management and enhance the visual identification of group chat activities.
Coming to the existing events feature, here is how you can use it.
