WhatsApp AI-Generated Group Icons: WhatsApp might be adding more AI features, as there have been reports by some beta testers that they have reported seeing a new option for image generation. The latest beta for WhatsApp for Android 2.25.6.10 update, available on the Google Play Store, suggests that WhatsApp is dropping a feature that can generate AI-powered group icons.
However, it seems that this feature of AI-generated images is currently limited to group icons only, which is in contrast with what was previously announced. This means the option to generate AI-powered profile photos for personal accounts is not there yet, and this feature can only be utilized while generating group icons.

As can be seen from the picture above some beta testers are already reporting this feature and this feature could prove to be useful for users who don’t have a suitable image for their group and prefer to let Meta AI create one. Instead of searching for a picture or taking a new photo, they can simply describe what they want, and the AI will generate a custom image based on their input. AI-generated group icons can also help represent ideas that are hard to capture with a real photo. For instance, if a group focuses on futuristic technology, fantasy worlds, or abstract themes, Meta AI can create an image that better reflects the group’s concept.
One thing to take note of here is that some users who install the latest stable release from Google Play Store might get their hands on this feature as well, this means the feature is not just limited to beta testers. WhatsApp has confirmed this through their official channel suggesting that the rollout might be more extensive than originally anticipated. This means more users might get their hands on it for experimentation without being in the beta program.
A feature for generating AI-powered group icons is available to select beta testers using the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store and will expand to more users in the coming weeks.
