WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging platform, tests new features and enhancements at regular intervals across smartphones. In the latest move, the company is developing an option to let users mark all chats as read, according to WABetaInfo. The feature is under development in the Android '2.24.18.11' build. However, the option is not rolling out to testers enrolled in the Google Play Beta Program.
According to the report, the "Mark all chats as read" option is not ready for a release and is expected to arrive on Android with an upcoming update in future. This feature is expected to improve the chat managing experience and enable faster interactions for efficient communication. As per the screengrab shared in the report, the option may be available when users tap the three-dot button on the chat home screen of WhatsApp.
The overflow menu in the chats list may get the new option to 'Mark all as read' between 'Starred messages' and Settings'. This can ease the clearing of all unread chats with a single action. WABetaInfo noted the feature has been present on iOS for several years and the recent tests could imply the feature may arrive on Android soon.

WhatsApp is working on a feature to quickly mark all chats as read, and it will be available in a future update!https://t.co/61Hd7QSAd8 pic.twitter.com/XC5eKY55uL
The feature can ensure a clutter-free experience in case a user has a range of unread chats that may have stacked up on the WhatsApp home screen. This will allow users to skip the process of manually opening every chat to mark them as read and make this a one-tap operation to save time and avoid repetitive actions.
WABetaInfo added this feature will particularly help users who manage a wide range of chats and ease organisation. Meanwhile, the company is also working on AR features for call effects and filters on iOS to improve the video calling experience of iPhone users. You can read more on this here.
