WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging application recently started receiving Meta AI in India. In an effort to improve the user experience, the company is now working to let users reply to images or edit them using Meta AI. According to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, the feature is undergoing development in the Android beta "2.24.14.20" version. The feature is not rolling out to testers due to its under-development character.
According to the report, the option in testing comes after WhatsApp was spotted developing functionality to let users generate images of themselves after sharing sample photos with Meta AI. However, the feature in question will let users ask queries or edit photos manually with Meta AI. Beta testers should keep their WhatsApp updated to test out upcoming features whenever they start rolling out.
As per the screengrab shared in the report, the new chat button will let users manually send photos to Meta AI. The feature will allow users to ask questions about a photo such as telling "more about what's in it." Plus, it can also make changes to an image such as editing. "Photos sent to Meta AI can be analysed, including facial features," Meta noted. Users may get the option to delete these photos anytime.

WhatsApp is working on a feature to allow Meta AI to reply to photos and edit them, and it will be available in a future update!https://t.co/71qu3ZedQb pic.twitter.com/fdL50KECza
The feature can help users gain context or identify items in an image. Plus, people can also command Meta AI for required edits in photos via prompts in the message bar. This can help improve the chatting experience and save time on editing to let AI do the image processing. This can allow fast editing and quick context updates before sharing the image with others on social sites or within the messaging app.
On a related note, the company is replacing the old green badge with a blue verified checkmark for verified channels and businesses to make it uniform across Meta platforms like Instagram and Facebook. You can read more on this here.
