WhatsApp continues to make headlines in media reports for testing new features. In the latest beta update, it has been revealed that the Meta-owned app is working on new functionality to boost the security of a WhatsApp account through an email address. According to WABetaInfo, this option is in development and is not rolling out to testers at the moment.
According to the report, these features will build upon WhatsApp's commitment towards security and the new safety features announced in April. The beta version highlighted in the blog is - 2.23.16.15. The social media giant may deploy a user's email address from services such as Google's Gmail, Microsoft's Outlook and more to further its endeavour towards an added layer of security.
In the screengrab shared in the report, a new window that has a field to enter the email ID is visible. The text in the screenshot reads: "Your email is used to protect and verify your account." No further details about the feature are available as it is not live in beta. The specifics of the new feature remain under wraps as of now. The platform notes that the feature will be "optional" and different from the two-step verification process via email address.
In another series of updates, WhatsApp is rolling out animated avatars on Android. It will be available to beta testers who are using version 2.23.16.12. This will allow users to send their dynamic avatars in chats making conversations more expressive. Enrolled testers can head to the Google Play Store to update the app and test the new feature. Coming to general users, WhatsApp recently launched a video message feature that is now rolling out across the world.
