WhatsApp, Meta's popular instant messaging application, regularly develops new features for Android and iOS users. In the latest move to enhance privacy, the company is working to extend controls for users to decide who can use their avatars in stickers. According to WABetaInfo, the option is undergoing development on iOS '24.6.10.74' update.
While it is not rolling out for testers due to its "under development" character, the WhatsApp enthusiast shared a screengrab of the possible settings on iOS. A similar feature was also spotted in the works in the Android beta update earlier. The feature aims to allow more control for managing a user's digital identity as WhatsApp accounts may use the style and appearance of an avatar in their stickers.
In the screengrab shared in the report, the option 'who can feature my avatar in their stickers' has three options: 'My Contacts', 'Selected Contacts' and 'Nobody'. The My 'Contacts' will allow your saved contacts to use your digital appearance in their stickers. Secondly, with the 'Selected Contacts', you can choose the contacts that can feature your avatar. Lastly, the 'Nobody' option will restrict all contacts and WhatsApp users from featuring your personalised avatar in stickers entirely.

WhatsApp is working on a privacy feature to control who can use your avatar in their stickers, and it will be available in a future update!https://t.co/nUpw4b99yv pic.twitter.com/KDJ2cpFwzu
If both users (you and the concerned contact) allow the setting, your avatars will be accessible in chat. The new feature will improve the chat experience in favour of a user's privacy and security. It will also define personalisation for the messaging experience and control access to personalised avatars. WhatsApp for iOS testers must keep their app updated to try out the feature whenever it starts rolling out.
Meanwhile, the company is also testing the feature to upload up to one-minute videos as status on WhatsApp. Moreover, the company is working to allow users to transcribe voice notes on the app. Plus, the Meta app continues to plan AI-powered photo editing tools and Meta AI's accessibility via the search bar.
