WhatsApp, which has been working on a number of services, is now focusing on strengthening UPI payments in India to compete with Paytm, Google Pay, and PhonePe. It's no surprise that the payments feature hasn't received much attention from users owing to poor user experience. However, the firm is apparently planning to release a new version that will improve the user experience.
According to WaBetaInfo, the new WhatsApp beta version for Android users brings the shortcut for the QR code for UPI payments and is expected to make its public rollout in the coming weeks. However, the instant messaging platform has not made any official statement about the feature.

According to reports, the QR code scanner shortcut will be available in WhatsApp Android Beta version 2.24.7.3, but only for a restricted group of users at this time. The camera and search icon are on the same tab as the QR code scanner on the main chat interface. Soon after the user clicks on the QR code, WhatsApp will read the code to enable the UPI payment from the messaging application eliminating the need to go to other UPI accounts.

The purpose of the new feature is to facilitate user registration for the service in India and other nations where UPI is accepted. This might be a result of UPI emerging as one of the most popular payment methods, handling billions of dollars in transactions every month. Individuals have been depending on Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Play.
Additionally, WhatsApp has more than 400 million users, and for all of them, it might be a helpful tool for conducting business.
